Mensi Stiff Claims Third Straight Tennessee Indoor State Shot Put Title

In a tune-up for nationals next month, Brentwood Academy senior Mensi Stiff claimed her third straight shot put state title on Sunday at the Tennessee State High School Indoor Championships at Vanderbilt University. 

The University of Mississippi commit and current top-ranked shot putter, won the event easily with a throw of 51-feet, 2.25 inches to help her team win the girls team championship with 61 points. Stiff will look to defend her Nike Indoor Nationals title in March. Last year she won the event in an indoor personal-best throw of 52-8.75. 

All-American cross country runner sophomore Abby Faith Cheeseman of The Webb School cruised to a US#3 time of 10:14.90. She’ll next run at New Balance Nationals next month. 

In the sprints, Brainerd sophomore Danielle Dunning claimed the 60-meter dash title in 7.48 (tied for US#16) and the 200 (24.67).

Sophomore Gabrielle Boulay of Centennial won the 800 in a PR time of 2:13.47. 

St. Agnes Academy senior Caroline Weems broke the meet record in the pole vault title with 13-1.75, US#16. 

Brentwood senior Kiersten Bell won the triple jump (38-5) and placed second in the high jump (5-1), while teammate Sophie Yount, a sophomore, won the long jump (18-0.25) and placed second in the 60m hurdles (8.87).

The Brentwood Academy boys made it a program sweep, scoring 75.5 points to win the team championship. Brentwood senior Hudson Allain won the 400 in a US#18 time of 48.27 and finished second in the 200 (21.96).

In the distance event, Daniel Boone senior Alexander Quackenbush claimed the 2-mile title in a personal best time of 9:24.18. 

In the field events, Green Hill senior Kyler Nichold won the pole vault (15-7) and triple jump (45-2.50). Nolensville junior Sterling Weldon won the long jump in 23-6.75.
